Social media was and still is one of the main channels we use to promote RumbleTalk chat room platform. But what we experienced last weekend was truly remarkable and we wanted to share it with you.

So, here how it went:
We use mainly Facebook to share with our audience (~40K)
3 main subjects about our chat room platform.

1 – Most common are stories written around the globe about RumbleTalk chat platform.
2 – We share news about RumbleTalk and new platform features.
3 – Since RumbleTalk is a platform that let customers design their own chat room themes (very much like WordPress themes), we share those cool chat themes created by customers with our Facebook audience. Normally we get couple of likes and a few shares.
4 – In the past 3 months we added another traffic booster option by using Facebook promotional booster which is a way to promote your Facebook post to friends of your audience (In our case it is over 21,000,000 people).

This method proves to be very efficient in creating good boost of traffic.

Last Saturday our designer created a cool Ad (see above) and we added it to our Facebook company page. We than created a quick “traffic booster” campaign in Facebook.
A day after we saw that traffic from Facebook toward our website was pretty heavy.
After 3 days we saw those impressive numbers:

165,120 saw this Ad
1156 LIKES
214 Shares

Now, just to make the right comparison. Other ads we have created in the past made as low as 2 shares, 10 likes and 2 comments with the exact same promotion.
Pretty amazing indeed.

We get a lot of questions about whether there is a possibility of adding the same chat room to various places (e.g blog, website, Facebook page).

The answer is YES !!!

Let’s take a situation where a website owner wishes to create a conversation around his website topics. Now , he has a website, a blog where he presents his ideas on a normal basis and a Facebook page where he is constantly adding relevant posts for his fans.

Naturally, at a given moment, some of his audience are located in a given moment at his website, some are reading his blogs and some are checking their Facebook page for updates.

With RumbleTalk he can place one chat in all his online “assets”.
It is simple. See below how to:

Step 1: Create an account, via Rumbletalk.com (simply enter users name and password) and the create button. On the screen you will see all relevant technical details for your chatroom creation

Step 2: Facebook Chat: click on the Facebook button to create a chatroom for your Facebook. Choose a page and approve. The chat will be added to your Facebook page.

Step 3: Blog: You wish to add a chat to your blog on a separate page. Take the code from the same screen you saw (the “embedded screen”). Copy the code and add it to your blog.
Note, if you have a plugins (wordpress, joomla ..etc) you can just install the plugin and add the 8 chars code to your plugin.

Step 4: Home Page: You can add the same code you used for your blog or if you wish to have a floating chat (footer chat) in your home page.

That is it. Now, no matter where the traffic will come to your website, it will seem as if your chat is loaded with chatters, no matter where they came from (your blog, your home page or your Facebook fan page)

Ok, finally we integrated the flood control feature to all chatrooms in all languages (30 languages) and on all servers.

To be frank, it was faster than expected and we ran into very few issues. All issues are solved and no known bugs are left on our plate. Although not reported, we apologize if you had a slow chat or any issue with your chatroom during the past week. If you wish to report on bugs please contact us at RumbleTalk contact us page.

As a result of recent testing, the flood control was enriched with some intelligence and was adjusted/tuned to work with both large and small chats.

In the coming weeks we will start implementing an anti spam flood control.
The implementation of the anti flood feature will be gradual and will be installed during the next 14 days.

What Flood control is all about?

Flood is basically another word for chat spammers. It means that if you see many quick types of text or repeated copy&paste, this is a spammer (troll) using your chat. Chat Flooding can either be done by a person, scripts (written for a given client) or by external programs. It is possible to flood a chat by sending it a lot of data (fast) which results in non-usable chat.

Flood control solution

There are many types of flood control technique (CCTP, DCC, ICMP) .
We choose to deal with message flooding which is the most painful issue for chats with many chatters. Message flooding refer to, sending massive amounts of messages (private text messages or group messages).

Spam and spammers Filters

The flood control is another level of handling spam. We have in RumbleTalk chat platform various ways to cope with spammers. We grouped the spammers features into 8 levels.

First, is a black listed words spam filter – Any chat can be set with a list of unwanted words and phrases.

Then we have the ban as a warning feature – The chat administrator can ban users as a warning and let the user login again when they are ready.

The third level is banned by IP – so administrator can make sure a user will be banned and cannot login again to the chat.

The fourth level is to ban a range of IPs – so if a stubborn user tries to connect from several IPs, there is an option to ban a range of IP’s.

The fifth Level is facebook and twitter login – spam is reduced by 80% when using social network login instead of a Guest login. So to avoid spam set the chat to allow only Facebook and/or twitter logged-in chatters.

The new flood control – handling the flood of messages and kicking the user out.

Clear chat messages – if a chat content needs to be deleted, we provide an easy way to clear the chat from all messages.

Clear single message – we allow users to clear single messages as part of keeping the conversation “clean”.

However, the need for a single message delete was always at the top of our customers’ wish list. We are glad we managed to introduce it to you. Please login as admin, then you will see a trash icon next to each message. Clicking on it will delete the message for all chatters.
